  • JOAN KOLLER, 91, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Joan Koller, 91, North Manchester, IN died at 8:48 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, IN. She was born August 24, 1921 in North Manchester, IN to Floren H. & Faye (Jenkins) Lautzenhiser.  She graduated from Chester High School in 1939 and attended Manchester College. On October 22, 1944 she married Charles R. Koller. Joan was a homemaker and taught at the Kindergarten Level.  She also worked in retail crafts & hobby shops.  She was a member of United Methodist Church, North Manchester, IN and Xi Iota Xi. She is survived by her husband, Charles R. Koller, North Manchester, IN; five sons, James (Sue) Koller, Geneva, IL, John (Gloria) Koller, Fort Myers, FL, William (Nancy) Koller, Ellicott City, MD, Robert (Beverly) Koller, Baltimore, MD and David (Cathy) Koller, Saline, MI; fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.  One brother is deceased.  Family & friends may call Friday, March 15, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, IN and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.  Services Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church, 306 E.   • RAYMOND L. KAUFFMAN, 88, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Raymond L. Kauffman, 88, North Manchester, Indiana died at 1:41 p.m.  Tuesday, October 30, at Peabody Retirement Community after a debilitating battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.    Born in Abilene, Kansas, July 28, 1924, to Clyde L. Kauffman and Wilna (Cutler) Kauffman, he grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Central High School in 1942.  Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Army and served as Tec 5 Corporal in the 481st Light Pontoon Company.  He served in the European Theatre of Operations and was awarded three battle stars including one for the Battle of the Bulge.   Favorably discharged from the Army in 1946, he enrolled in the University of Missouri where he played football, was initiated into the Kappa Sigma fraternity, and earned a Bachelor of Science Business Administration in 1949. He began a career in insurance in 1949 as the Marion, Indiana, branch office manager of the Chicago Motor Club.  He joined the Wetzel Insurance Agency in 1957 becoming Wetzel’s President in 1968.  He earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation in 1964 and served as the President of the Indiana Mutual Agents Association, later known as the Indiana Professional Insurance Agents (PIA), in 1968.  He retired from Wetzel in 1992. Raymond served his community as President of the North Manchester Chamber of Commerce, President of the Lions Club, President of the Manchester Community Schools Parent Teacher Association, Trustee  of the United Methodist Church; and Board Member of the Indiana Lawrence Bank.  He taught Sunday school, coached safety awareness to driver’s training students, and lectured in general insurance at Manchester College.   He was a member of the Deming Masonic Lodge, Sycamore Golf Club, and Tippecanoe Lake Country Club. Raymond leaves his devoted spouse of 61 years Ramona (Harshman) and a  legacy of four children:  Raymond (deceased) and widow Kate, Naperville, IL; Laura Kauffman, Fort Wayne, IN; Ellen and spouse George Perry III, Zionsville, IN;  Byron and  spouse Jane, Leesburg, IN; nine grandchildren, Nicole Fultz, George Perry IV, Laura Beth Perry, Mathew Perry, Kayla Kauffman, Derek Kauffman, Tripp Kauffman, Gramm Kauffman, and Brynn Kauffman; and, a great grandson Colton Fultz. Calling is scheduled at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 W, North Manchester, IN from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012. Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012 at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, IN. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the United Methodist Church, 306 E.   • C. EVAN KINSLEY, 100, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    C. Evan Kinsley, 100, North Manchester, IN died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2012 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center. He was born August 27, 1912 in Hartville, OH to Aaron & Lottie (Carper) Kinsley. He graduated from Manchester College in 1934, received his Master Degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1941 and did advanced studies at Northern Illinois University. Evan was a teacher and principal for 21 years at Mt. Morris (IL) High School. From 1965-67 he and his wife, Lucile, served the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria as educational missionaries. From 1967-1974 he was principal of Franklin Center High School, Franklin Grove, IL and from 1974-1977 he was Director of Placement and Career Development at Manchester College, retiring in 1977. He served as a trustee of Manchester College from 1956-1965. He was a 50+ year member of the Kiwanis Club, member of the North Manchester Shepherds Center, Wabash County Retired Teachers Association and a life member of the National Education Association. On June 25, 1935 he married Lucile I. Buck. She died December 29, 2010.  He is survived by three sons, Dale (Cheryll) Kinsley, Lummi Island, WA, Kenneth (Karen) Kinsley, Monticello, MN and Gerald (Cindy) Kinsley, Loves Park, IL; one daughter, Joyce Mann, Chico, CA; one brother, Gene Kinsley, Daytona Beach, FL; one half brother, Keith Pontius, Fairfield Glade, TN; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.   • ADOLPH C. KUBON JR., 78, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Adolph C. Kubon Jr., 78, North Manchester, IN died at 3:07 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, IN.  He was born October 20, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Adolph J. & Mary (Pokrzywa) Kubon.  Adolph graduated from IIT, Chicago, IL with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.  He was an Electrical Design Engineer at Custom Magnetics, Inc., North Manchester, IN 1976-1998. He was a US Army Veteran, a member of Moose Lodge #1518 and a life member of Sycamore Golf Club, both of North Manchester, IN and a member of the Catholic Faith.  He is survived by two sisters, Irene Donnawell, Chicago, IL and Helen (Marcus) Beckler, Chicago, IL; Longtime friends, Pat Wake, North Manchester, IN, Kirti & Barbara Shah, North Manchester, IN and Brian, Heather & Conner Wake, North Manchester, IN.  He was the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.   A Memorial Reception will be held Monday, June 18, 2012 from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge # 1518, 207 E.   • BETTY M. KAMP, 85, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Betty M. Kamp, 85, North Manchester, IN went to meet her Lord and Savior on February 20, 2012 at 6:35 p.m. at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN.  She was born June 22, 1926 at Kalamazoo, MI to John Clarence & Ethel Vivian (Chamberlain) Mowrer.  She is survived by a son, Danny Kamp ; two daughters, Linda K. (Kamp) Hyden and Cindy D. (Kamp) Campbell, all of North Manchester, IN.  Nine grandchildren, Linda Marie (David) McKee, Candi (Kamp) Brubaker, Kelly M. (O’Hara) Caudill, Jason M. (Betty) O’Hara, James R. (Traci) Hyden, Kara M. Kamp, John M. Hyden, Ryan M. (Sarah) O’Hara, and Bob D. Kamp. Also surviving are sixteen great-grandchildren.  Betty Married Bob L. Kamp on October 21, 1945.  He died December 8, 2011.  She graduated Laketon High School in 1944 and was a member of Manchester Bible Church.  She attended TOPS for many years, loved teddy bears and beaded necklaces.  She enjoyed Bible study groups, reciting poetry for church functions, singing with the church choirs and testifying.  She was an avid prayer warrior for her family.  Betty was a homemaker and had worked in the dining room at Peabody Memorial Home and provided childcare for her grandchildren. Services will be held Friday, February 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Congregational Christian Church, 310 N. Walnut Street, North Manchester, IN.  Pastor Matthew Staton and Pastor J.P.   • DEAN KINDY, 90, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Dean Kindy, North Manchester, Indiana died January 27, 2012.  He was born at North Manchester, IN in 1921 to Ivan & Dessa Kindy.  Most of his early years were spent on the family farm in Naperville, Illinois before attending and graduating from Manchester College.  He started working in 1947 at the Church of the Brethren Service Center in New Windsor, Maryland with relief and refugee work after the war.  There he met and in 1948 married June Zimmerman with whom he was to be graced with 63 years of marriage.  Dean is survived by June and their five children, Cliff (Arlene) Kindy, North Manchester, IN; Bruce (Donna) Kindy, Wooster, OH; Joe (Peggy) Kindy, Sterling, OH; Treva Schar, Wooster, OH; Gloria (Dan Garrett) Kindy, Rockville, MD.  He and June have 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.  Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters.  He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.  After being called to the ministry by his congregation in Naperville he graduated from Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL and spent the next 34 years as a pastor in the Church of the Brethren.  The early years were with the Crystal and New Haven congregations in Michigan and then longer tenures with the Chippewa and Lake Breeze congregations in Ohio.  A colleague praised Dean as a peace and justice pioneer.  Dean and June were active with migrant ministry in Florida while serving in the second Brethren Volunteer Service unit and he picked up that ministry again during the Michigan years.  The family frequently sponsored refugees and worked with exchange students, many of whom lived for a time with the family.  After retirement Dean and June volunteered again at the New Windsor Service Center, spent time as Heifer Project Host and Hostess in Massachusetts and Dean worked with the disaster response program of the denomination and was a guest preacher in area churches near his home.  Memorial services will be held February 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, 2507 E State Road 14, Silver Lake, IN.  McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, IN is assisting the family with arrangements.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Heifer International, 1 World Ave., Little Rock, AR 72202 or the Church of the Brethren General Board, 1451 Dundee Ave., Elgin, IL 60120.  To send a private condolence to the Kindy family, use the Condolence link on the Homepage. 

  • BOB L. KAMP, 84, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Bob L. Kamp, 84, went to meet his Lord and Savior on December 8 at 4:15 p.m. at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne, in the ICU following a short illness.  He was born on June 28, 1927 in Akron, IN on his Grandfather’s farm to the late Katherine (Kamp) Overlander. He is survived by Betty (Mowrer) Kamp, his loving wife of 66 years.  He is also survived by two daughters, Linda K. (Kamp) Hyden and Cindy (Kamp) Campbell, and one son, Danny Kamp all of North Manchester, IN.  He shares a large, loving family of 9 grandchildren, Linda Marie (Dave) McKee, Candi Brubaker, Kelly Caudill, Jason M.  (Betty) O’Hara, James R. (Traci) Hyden, Kara Kamp, John M. Hyden, Ryan (Sarah) O’Hara, and Bob D. Kamp and 16 great-grandchildren. Bob married Betty on October 21, 1945 in Majenica, IN.  He served in the US Army, stationed in Italy, from 1945-1947.  He retired after 40 years, as a molder, at North Manchester Foundry.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #286 and North Manchester Historical Society.  He was also an active and dedicated member of Manchester Bible Church in North Manchester.  He enjoyed spending time with family, at grandchildren’s school and sport activities, church fellowships, concerts, and plays.  He also enjoyed reading, working out in the yard, frequent walks, and bicycling. Bob is still survived by two brothers and two sisters, Raymond (Donna) Overlander, Pendleton, IN, Lewie (Kathy) Overlander, Akron, IN, Carolyn Murphy, Rochester, IN and Marilyn (Bob) Cleveland, Peru, IN. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Bonnie Overlander, Akron, IN.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Lawerence Overlander. Funeral services will be held at Congregational Christian Church, 310 N. Walnut Street, North Manchester on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Matthew Staton and Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating.  Friends and family may call on Sunday, December 11, 2011 from 2 p.m.  to 6 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 St. Rd. 114 W, North Manchester  and one hour prior to services at the church.  Bob will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Servia.   • MAMIE A. KEIM, 81, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Mamie A. Keim, 81, North Manchester, IN died at Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 4:40 p.m. in Peabody Healthcare Center.  She was born at Cass County, Indiana on January 12, 1930 to John J. & Rachel (Hynes) Smith.  On June 10, 1951 she married John H. Keim.  He died December 17, 1998.  Mamie earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Manchester College in 1951 and her Master of Science in Education from Indiana University in 1965.  She was a dedicated teacher and counselor for 40 years, 30 of those years with Manchester Community Schools, North Manchester, IN.  She retired in 1995.  She was a member of First Brethren Church, North Manchester where she was a dedicated organist.  She was also a member of National Education Association, Indiana Retired Teachers, I.S.T.A. and M.T.A.  Surviving are three sons, Charles (Lorena) Keim, North Manchester, IN.; William E. Keim, North Manchester, IN; Wallace E. (Lori) Keim, The Woodlands, TX; and a daughter, Janis A. (Cindy Thomas) Keim, Penrose, NC.  Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and three sisters.  Services will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.  Friends and family may call on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. at McKee's.  Pastor Ron Burns and Rev.   • RUTH N. KURTZ, 92, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Ruth N. Kurtz, 92, North Manchester, IN died Sunday, July 24, 2011 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. She was born February 10, 1919 to Lee R. & Jennie C. (Royer) Smith.  She graduated from Chester High School in 1937 and Manchester College in 1941. On September 2, 1951 she married Alton Robert Kurtz. He died June 29, 1983. She was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester, IN. Ruth was employed with Cooperative Extension Service of Minnesota from 1949-1951. She taught in various high schools in Ohio and Indiana from 1941-1949 and also taught at Bridgewater College in Virginia.  While raising her children and in retirement, Ruth gave much time in service to church, college and community activities in Defiance, OH, Spring Arbor, MI and finally as a resident at Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester, IN.  She resided in Defiance, OH 1953-1974, Spring Arbor, MI 1974-1985 and at Timbercrest Senior Living Community since 1985. She is survived by three daughters, Rachel (Bob) Gross, North Manchester, IN, Beth (Francois Costes) Kurtz-Costes, Chapel Hill, NC and Sarah (Jim Bernard) Kurtz, Golden, CO; one son, Stanley Kurtz, Morelia, Mexico; one brother, Lee Smith Jr., North Manchester, IN; two sisters, Frances Anderson, Elkhart, IN and Martha Colace, North Manchester, IN and five grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Friends and family may call August 18, 2011 from 1:00-2:15 p.m. at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN.  Services will be at 2:30 p.m. August 18, 2011 at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester, IN.  Burial will be in Ulrey Cemetery, Silver Lake, IN.  For those who wish to honor the memory of Ruth Kurtz, memorial contributions may be given to Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1306 N.   • ROGER L. KINZIE, 53, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN

     

    Roger L. Kinzie, 53, North Manchester, IN died at 11:55 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Wabash County Hospital.  He was born September 19, 1957 in Wabash, Indiana to John H. & Jane E. (Boocher) Kinzie.  He was an over the road truck driver for several years in Indiana, Texas and California.  He was also a truck driver for Gaunt & Son Asphalt, Inc., Wabash, Indiana for the past 16 years.  From 1986-1990 he was co-owner of Beachler-Lucas Tire Co.  Roger graduated from Manchester High School in 1975.  He loved to canoe the Eel River with family and friends and was a member of N.R.A. and the American Motorcycle Association.  He was an avid motorcycle rider and enthusiast.  Surviving are three daughters, Ashley N. Kinzie, Alyson R. Kinzie and Adriane L. Kinzie, all of North Manchester, Indiana.  His mother, Jane E. Kinzie, North Manchester, a sister Ronda S. Pendleton, Dayton, IN and his companion, Rhonda R. Hopkins, North Manchester.  He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Robert A. Kinzie.  Services will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN.  Friends and family may call on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 from 2-5 & 6-8 p.m. at McKee Mortuary.  Pastor J.P.
