Phyllis L Barger

Phyllis L. Barger, 68, North Manchester, Indiana passed away at 4:35 a.m. on September 4, 2017 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, Indiana. Born in Norfolk, Virginia on March 8, 1949, Phyllis was the daughter of Guy and Wilma (Iliff) Hurraw.

On the first day of June in 1968 Phyllis married Thomas Barger. The two were married for 49 years and had one daughter, Patricia. During her years of marriage, Phyllis worked as a receptionist for a variety of companies, including Peabody Retirement Center and Beacon Credit Union.

Mrs. Barger was a member of Solid Rock Grace Brethren Church, South Whitley, Indiana and Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, Winona Lake, Indiana where both Thomas and Phyllis were youth leaders. Her faith brought her comfort during her recent health struggles. Phyllis enjoyed singing in the Purdue Extension and Peabody Entertainers groups. She loved reading all the John Grisham books, gardening and making floral arrangements, but she loved her family and grandchildren most of all.

Phyllis is survived by her husband Thomas Barger, North Manchester; her daughter Patricia (Kip) Shoemaker, North Manchester; two brothers Rod (Michelle) Hurraw, Columbus, Ohio and Rex Hurraw, North Manchester; two sisters Marilyn Hurraw, Ossian, Indiana and Rhonda Stabler, Fort Wayne, Indiana; and two grandchildren Noah and Jacob Shoemaker, both of North Manchester.
