Elizabeth Marks Obituary

Elizabeth May (Biddy Allen) Marks, 85, passed away at 1:30 a.m on March 18, 2018 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, Indiana. One of three children, Elizabeth was born on July 27, 1932 in Logansport, Indiana to Wesley H. (Bus) and Marian I. (Dunn) Allen.

After graduating from Logansport High School in 1950, she attended Purdue University and Manchester College. On August 19, 1951 Elizabeth married Harold L. Marks, Jr. in her parent's Logansport home. While Harold was finishing up his degree from Purdue University, Elizabeth worked at the Purdue Library and later did drafting at the Purdue School of Engineering.

After Harold returned from military service in Korea, he and Elizabeth moved to North Manchester in 1955 where his family owned a pharmacy. During her time in North Manchester, she owned “The Sampler” a needle point business from 1982 to 1986. After leaving this adventure, she went on to manage the Hallmark and Gift Department at Marks Drug Store.

When Elizabeth wasn’t managing Marks Drug store and after retiring she enjoyed needlework, gardening, cooking genealogy, antiques, fishing with family in Canada and was a loving mother and grandmother. She was also a member of Friends of the Library, Timbercrest Auxiliary, North Manchester Historical Society, formally active and inactive in Tri-Kappa. As if Elizabeth’s life wasn’t busy enough with five children, she was a former Cub Scout and later Girl Scout leader and a member of the North Manchester United Methodist Church, where she and Harold worshiped.

Elizabeth will be forever remember by her husband, Harold L. Marks Jr., North Manchester, Indiana; two daughters, Lizabeth Lee (Dennis) Marks-Shepard, Brookston, Indiana and Lydia Jane Ball, Muncie, Indiana; two sons, James Allen (Diane) Marks, Goshen, Indiana and David Bradley (Tina) Marks, Lagro, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley (Todd) Goodner, Stephanie Allyn (Riley) Stone, Joel Wesley (Marlene) Marks, Scott (Laurie) Marks, Rachel (Bryan) Mose, Andrew David Marks, Patrick Austin (Victoria Son) Thompson and Bethany Jeanne Thompson; ten great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Lynn Goodner, Colin Gregory Goodner, Reid Alexander Marks, Owen Joel Marks, Liam Issac Marks, Emily Rose Marks, Kate Evans, Jordyn Smith, Ashley Brewster and Nola Fairhurst Thompson; one brother, Wesley (Wanda) Allen, Grand Junction, Colorado. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Marian Allen; one daughter, Nancy Ann Marks and one sister, Nancy Caroline Allen.
