Garl "Pete" Young

Garl "Pete" Young, 95, North Manchester, IN died at 1:00 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2018 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.  He was born July 4, 1923 in Wabash County, Indiana to Otto P. and Mabel E. (Wall) Young.

Garl "Pete" married Veradawn Bashore on July 15, 1945. She passed away May 16, 1996. Spending most of his life in North Manchester, Pete moved to Warsaw in 1967 then moving back to North Manchester in 2003. While living in Warsaw, Pete was a member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church. After moving back to North Manchester and moving to Peabody, Pete enjoyed attending Chapel at Peabody. Pete had a passion for motorcycles and was an avid outdoors-man including his love for fishing. Always working with his hands, he built birdhouses and always making little improvements to his home. His positive energy and never having a negative bone in his body was evident to all who knew him. He loved his grandson and great-grandchildren.

From 1955-1967, Pete was employed with the former Pyramid Oil Co. in North Manchester and was employed with Kosciusko County Highway Department from 1967 until his retirement in 1988.

Pete is survived by his son Lennie Lee (Sandra) Young, Warsaw, Indiana; one grandchild Adam (Latasha) Young, Claypool, Indiana; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife; two brothers Paul Young and Howard Young; three sisters Agatha Hippensteel, Wanda Parr, and Juanita Bechtold.

Services will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Peabody Chapel, 400 West 7th Street, North Manchester, Indiana 46962. Friends and family may call Monday, September 10, 2018 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Peabody Chapel. Pastor David Crowley will officiate and burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Servia, Indiana.  Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, IN
