Mary Alice (Peters) Caughell

Mary Alice Caughell, 86, North Manchester, Indiana, formerly of Laketon, Indiana, passed away at 4:23 a.m. on November 10, 2019 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. On February 2, 1933 Mary was born in White County, Indiana, to Bruno J. and Thelma (Hathaway) Peters. She was one of six children.

After graduating from Burnettsville High School, Indiana, in 1951, Mary married James R. “Bob” Caughell on September 14, 1952. The two were wed for fifty-two years before Bob passed away on August 26, 2004. During their time together, Mary worked at the U.S. Postal Service for thirty years and was a former Postmaster, before retiring in 1995. Mary was a great example of what a Christian should be and was a member at North Manchester Missionary Church. She was always involved in church activities and attended church every Sunday, until her health began to decline and lived her life for God. Beside faith, family was the next most important part of Mary’s life. She was a mother-in-law that always thought of her daughter-in-law’s as daughters. She was a great mother and made sure the kids and house were always in order. Mary’s grandchildren were always her pride and loved spending time with them. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed being outside gardening and tending to her flowers.

Mary Alice Caughell will be forever remembered by her two sons, Gregg (Terri) Caughell, Laketon, Indiana and Douglas (Deb) Caughell, North Manchester, Indiana; three brothers, Jerry (Ruth) Peters, Evansville, Indiana, Allan Dean Peters, Burnettsville, Indiana, and Glen (Jean) Peters, Indianapolis, Indiana; one sister Anita Smith, Holiday, Florida; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Christine Reynolds.

Family and friends may call Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling. The family of Mary Alice Caughell will officiate. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery, 600 Beckley Street, North Manchester, Indiana.
