My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I so enjoyed visiting with Arden and Mary Elizabeth at the Lions club meetings. They both are my neighbors, I can remember her saying how pretty my horses were when she saw them in the field. I will miss her greatly.

Mrs. Ayres, as she was known to her 4-H kids, remains an important memory of my younger years. I looked forward to her gentle, sweet spirit at every meeting, as well as chance encounters around town. Mrs. Ayres was, at least, partially responsible for my first trip to the Indiana State Fair! In my second year of 4-H, my dad promised a trip to the State Fair IF my butter cake was champion at the Wabash County 4-H Fair. Mrs. Ayres supported me wholeheartedly, and, indeed, my butter cake won State Fair Champion at Wabash. As silly as it may seem...that trip to Indianapolis to the State Fair was monumental to a small town kid at age 10!!

Though I haven't lived in North Manchester for many years, I don't live far away and I still go through there now and then. I always enjoyed running into Mrs. Ayres!

My condolences to her family. She changed the lives of many people, including "her 4-H kids," and I'm one of those.

Sincerely,
Shelly Tracy Gilliland

Grandma, You'll always be in my heart. -Ryan The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death. Isaiah 57:1-2
