Opal F Gray

Opal F. Gray, 90, Sidney, Indiana passed away at 3:27 a.m. on February 24, 2019 at Coventry Meadows, Fort Wayne, Indiana. One of seven children, Opal was born on October 4, 1928 in Huntington County, Indiana to Allison A. and Amanda (Walton) Hill.

After graduating from Sidney High School in 1946, Opal married Verl L. Gray on October 4, 1948. The two were married for 45 years before Verl passed away on November 26, 1993. While Opal’s children were in school, she worked as a cook at Sidney High School. After both children had graduated from high school, Opal went on to work for Heckman Bindery for 24 years before retiring. Opal was also a member of Packerton United Methodist Church, Packerton, Indiana.

Opal enjoyed the simple things in life, such as mowing the family farm, watching NCAA March Madness and beauty pageants. She also loved to root for Whitko Wildcats in many different sporting events. Those who knew Opal will remember her for the great cook that she was and being a woman who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, but most of all, Opal will be remembered as a great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Opal was beyond excited for her first great-great grandchild due to arrive in June.

The loving memory of Opal F. Gray will be remembered by her son, Stanley Gray, South Whitley, Indiana; her daughter Cindy Montgomery, Fort Wayne, Indiana; three grandchildren, Ryan J. (Anna) Lee, Holly J. Lee and Derek (Aleah) Montgomery; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Verl L. Gray; four brothers and two sisters.

Family and friends may call Friday, March 1, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of the calling. Pastor J.P. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 1013 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana.
