Nancy Lee Hawk, 91, North Manchester, passed away at Peabody Healthcare Center two weeks before her ninety-second birthday. The daughter of the late Ross A. and Della A. (Raymer) Mills, Nancy was born November 25, 1931, in Natrona, Pennsylvania.
After graduating from Har-Brack High School in 1949, Nancy and her family moved to Ohio, where she met her future husband, Ronald Hawk Sr. The two wed and began raising a family in Ohio, where Nancy was a homemaker who excelled in baking, quilting, and sewing, making much of her children’s clothing. When the children were still young, Nancy and her family bought a farm east of North Manchester, where they raised their children. Though Nancy and Ronald’s marriage didn’t work out as they had hoped, it blessed them with seven wonderful children.
Nancy worked at Heckman Bindery for many years with the goal of providing the best possible life for her children. She also co-founded and was a member of the Covered Bridge Quilt Club. After retiring Nancy was able to focus on the small things in life that she enjoyed such as sewing, knitting, and quilting, which she especially loved. Before moving to Peabody, she also took pleasure in studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses.
The loving memory of Nancy Lee Hawk will be forever cherished by her sons, Ronald (Jennifer) Hawk Jr., Claypool, James (Estelle) Hawk, Andrews, and Edward Hawk, Indianapolis; daughters, Rebecca Shelton, North Manchester, Margaret Lovett, North Manchester, and Jackie (Ronald) Smart, Huntington; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Thomas Mills; sister, Sarah McKee; two sons-in-law, Bill Shelton and Ralph Lovett; and her infant daughter, Joanne Hawk.
A private graveside will be held at a later date at South Whitley Cemetery, 7745 State Road 14, South Whitley, Indiana.
