Phyllis Jane (Ross) Fruitt

Phyllis Jane Fruitt, 87, of West Lafayette passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.

Phyllis was born August 15, 1936 in Sidney, IN, to the late Lawrence and Ruby (Carlin) Ross.

On June 14, 1959 she married Ronald Fruitt former Vice President for Housing and Food Service at Purdue University. He preceded her in passing on March 18, 2009.

Phyllis was a Hairstylist; she owned and operated her own shop. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in West Lafayette and member of PEO Sorority. Phyllis was an active volunteer in the community, and often worked the polls during elections. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, entertaining, sewing, playing piano, traveling, going to casinos and dining out with close friends and family.

Phyllis enjoyed Purdue Football and Basketball and was a season ticket holder for both. Lots of tailgating and dinners at their home over the years. She also enjoyed spending time with both the Ross and Fruitt families.

Surviving are her children: Mark Fruitt of Ft. Wayne, David Fruitt of West Lafayette, Nancy (Dave) Halsema of Westfield and Steven (Debbie) Fruitt of West Lafayette; her three grandchildren: Nick Halsema, Megan Halsema and Mya Fruitt; and sister: Jenine Michael of South Whitley.

Along with her husband Ronald, she is preceded in passing, by her parents; and brother Norman Ross.

Memorial visitation will be held from 3pm – 6pm Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette.

A Graveside Service will be held at the Fisher Clemer Ross Cemetery West of 400 E and 900 S in Kosciusko County on October 7, 2023 at 11am.
