The third of five children, DeWayne was born on August 8, 1934, to Walter Dealy and Eva Louise (Griffiths) Glass in Huntington County, Indiana.
DeWayne lived with his parents and siblings outside Huntington, graduating from Lancaster High School in 1952. Shortly after high school, DeWayne went on a double-blind date where he met Shirley Brubaker, who has since gone to her Lord on October 14, 2022. The two were married on June 11, 1955, in Huntington. Over the years, DeWayne worked as a grain and dairy farmer, small engine and farm equipment mechanic as well as an entrepreneur. He worked at HK Porter in Huntington, General Tire in Wabash and Alford Implement Sales in Laketon. He then created Glass Auto Sales serving as an automotive parts distributor to local dealerships and businesses. He later owned a Cub Cadet lawn equipment dealership, providing sales and service. Always on the move, even in retirement, DeWayne continued following his passions performing small engine repair for neighbors and friends and small-scale farming–up until the age of 90.
DeWayne enjoyed camping, going to farm shows, and watching NASCAR races. DeWayne was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in North Manchester.
