Brian Ray Helvey, born November 28, 1958 in Wabash, Indiana, to William and Ida (Ellenwood) Helvey, passed away at his home in North Manchester, Indiana on August 6, 2026.

Brian’s life was rooted in North Manchester, where he was known for his humor and friendliness. A proud graduate of Northfield High School in the class of 1978, Brian later attended Manchester College, aspiring to become a sports broadcaster. His love of sports remained a defining part of his life.

Throughout his career, Brian brought dedication and hard work to each of his roles. He worked at Warner Brooders, Cripe Motor Service, and Egolf Salvage. Brian also contributed to the Manchester Recreation Association, where he was known for mowing the fields and umpiring games—combining his love for the outdoors and sports. Brian was a member of the Congregation Christian Church, where he worshiped his Lord and Savior.

Brian's vibrant personality set him apart. Outgoing and good-humored, he brightened the lives of those around him. His enjoyment of life’s simpler pleasures—especially fishing—was well known among friends and acquaintances. Throughout his years in North Manchester, Brian could often be seen riding his trike and later his golf cart through town, exchanging friendly waves and conversations.

The loving memory of Brian Helvey will be forever cherished by his mother, Ida Helvey Cripe, Tippecanoe; brother, Barry (Tanya) Helvey, Tippecanoe; step-brother, David (Sally) Cripe, Warsaw; step-sister, Valene Sue (Randall) Alexander, La Fontaine; nieces and nephews; and the many friends he made over the years. Brian was preceded in death by his father, William Helvey; step-father, Paul “Bud” Cripe; and sister, Belinda Winkelman.
