Carolyn Sue (Nolan) Reed

August 18, 1934 — January 8, 2024

North Manchester

Carolyn Sue Reed, 89, North Manchester, Indiana, entered the kingdom of her Lord and Savior on January 8, 2024. The daughter of William “Bill” and Geneva (Reardon) Nolan, Carolyn was born August 18, 1934, in Logansport, Indiana.

After graduating from Logansport High School in 1952, Carolyn earned a degree from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in West Lafayette and began working at the hospital in Plymouth, Indiana. While Carolyn was at nursing school, she met the love of her life, John Reed while he was a pharmacy student at Purdue. On August 18, 1956, Carolyn’s life changed forever when she married John David Reed Sr. The two moved to North Manchester in 1964 and later became owners of Key Pharmacy.

A devout Catholic her entire life, Carolyn demonstrated unwavering faith to her family and friends. She was a natural caregiver, showing kindness and love when caring for her mother and mother-in-law. Her nursing background allowed them both to stay home longer. Carolyn also cared for the love of her life, John, when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She was the cornerstone of her family and ensured each of her six children valued family in the same way she did.

Carolyn was also a servant to her community. She volunteered her time and talents with various organizations including the Thomas Marshall House, Thursday’s Child, and the Center for History. She was also a member of Tri Kappa and enjoyed socializing by playing Euchre, Bridge and Bunco for many years.

The loving memory of Carolyn Sue Reed will be forever cherished by her children, Susan (Dan) Manwaring, North Manchester, Dr. John (Diana) Reed Jr., Fort Wayne, Karen (Joe) Gawor, Crown Point, Sheryl (Dan) Vail, McCordsville, and Kevin (Beth) Reed, Brookville, Ohio; son-in-law, Dr. Greg D. Jennings, Terre Haute; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John David Reed Sr. on November 16, 2000; and daughter, Janice K. Reed Jennings on December 11, 2017.
