Charlene "Charlie" Kay Young, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away at her home in North Manchester, Indiana, on January 5, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on February 27, 1950, in Manchester, Connecticut, to Kenneth Allen and Charlotte Jean (Ballenger) Stratton, Charlie lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to those around her.

Charlie attended Manchester High School and went on to dedicate more than four decades to her profession as the Manager of The Inn Pub and Grill. For forty-six years, Charlie was a cornerstone of this establishment, navigating different ownerships while maintaining the essence of what made The Inn a beloved community gathering place. Her leadership, dedication, and attention to detail earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and patrons alike.

On May 23, 1987, Charlie married Kevin Young, blending their families with love and grace. Together, they created a nurturing household where everyone was embraced. Charlie’s devotion to her family was evident through her pride in her children and grandchildren. She found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren, often engaging in crafting activities that brought out her creative spirit.

Charlie's welcoming nature extended beyond her immediate family; she had a network of friends who she considered family. Known for her open-door policy, especially on festive occasions like Christmas, she epitomized generosity and kindness. Her willingness to help others, whether by preparing meals for those in need or lending her support during challenging times, showcased her loving and giving heart. With her penchant for organizing girls’ trips and gatherings, Charlie cultivated lasting friendships that enriched her life and the lives of those around her.

The loving memory of Charlie Young will be forever cherished by her son, Kenneth Lambert, North Manchester; daughter, Teresa (Carissa) Lambert, Wabash; son, Ted (Brandy) Young, Lafayette; daughter, Heather (Brian) Wake, Warsaw; brother, Walter (Betty) Stratton, Guam; sister, Barbara (Norman) Fuchs, Angola; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and all the friends she made throughout her years. Charlie was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Kevin Young.

A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at a later date.
