D. Joann Bashore, born on February 25, 1930, in Logansport, Indiana, to Earl Rease and Josephine (Hall) Cook, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at Miller's Merry Manor in Warsaw, Indiana. As a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Joann lived a life characterized by kindness, and resilience.
After graduating from Central High School in 1948, where she was also a member of the choir, Joann began her journey in both love and family. It was during her high school years that she began dating her high school sweetheart, Ted Bashore. Their deep bond culminated in marriage on April 2, 1949. Together, they built a life filled with love and support until Ted’s untimely passing in June 1972. Left to raise their four children—Randall, Ronald, Pam, and Sandra—Joann exemplified strength and determination as a dedicated mother, ensuring her family remained a close-knit unit.
Joann’s career spanned thirty-three years at Singer Controls in North Manchester, where she worked diligently to support her family until her retirement in 1995. Her commitment to her work mirrored her dedication to her family, demonstrating a strong work ethic that inspired those around her.
A person of remarkable character, Joann was known for her laid-back personality and ever-present smile, often seen waving at others. She approached life with a gracious spirit, never speaking ill of anyone and maintaining a calm demeanor even in challenging times. Her joy was evident in simple pleasures—playing Bingo and Yahtzee with friends, enjoying evenings playing euchre with family, and attending performances at the Wagon Wheel and lively outings to the movies.
The loving memory of D. Joann Bashore will be forever cherished by her daughter, Pam Johnson, North Manchester; sister, Sharon Sue Ruppert, Andrews; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. Joann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ted Bashore; sons, Randall and Ronald Bashore; daughter, Sandra Rogers; and great-great-granddaughter, Ruby Wilson.
