Darrell "Bommer" Kenneth Hopkins

Oct 26, 1951 — Aug 21, 2026

North Manchester, Indiana

Darrell "Bommer" Kenneth Hopkins, born on October 26, 1951, in Wabash, to Dallas William and Marjory Ellen (Penn) Hopkins, passed away on August 21, 2026, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Darrell spent his life in Indiana, where he built a legacy of dedication, humor, and quiet compassion. He enjoyed an impressive career spanning over four decades at the Laketon Refinery in Laketon, Indiana. Throughout his years at the refinery, Darrell wore many hats, but his official position was that of a Pumper. He was known as someone who could do just about everything there.

Darrell was recognized not only for his work ethic but also for his memorable sense of humor. Though he could be rough around the edges, those close to Darrell understood that beneath it all, he was genuinely a kind and caring man. He had a particularly soft spot for animals, especially the cats at the Laketon Refinery. He would often make sure they were fed, and if any were injured, Darrell would not hesitate to take them to the vet, ensuring they received proper care.

On October 28, 1983, Darrell married Sharon Jackson. This union marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life. The bonds Darrell formed extended beyond immediate family; his relationship with his in-laws was deeply meaningful, more akin to relationships between siblings. He valued these connections, cherishing the shared moments and laughter over the years. Darrell enjoyed the freedom that came with motorcycle riding. The open road brought him joy and provided an outlet for adventure.

The loving memory of Darrell “Bommer” Hopkins will be forever cherished by his wife, Sharon “Mitz” Hopkins, North Manchester; children, Melissa Hopkins and Lisa Franklin; brother, Danny Joe (Jeannie) Hopkins, North Manchester; sister, Charnalea “Chick” Stanley, Ocala, Florida; two grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Christopher Kline; step-daughter, Tammy Kline; and grandson, Jeremy Marburger.
