David D. Hicks

David D. Hicks, 82, of North Manchester, Indiana, passed away at his home on October 30, 2026. The son of Bert and Mable (Moore) Hicks, David was born on January 27, 1944, in West Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

David lived a simple but loving life. On November 23, 1963, he married Barbara Jane Wright. The two shared fifty-four wonderful years of marriage before Barbara’s passing on February 15, 2018. During his career, David worked at Bryan Manufacturing and later spent twenty-four years at Singer Controls before retiring in 1996. He and Barbara shared a passion for gardening and were devoted to raising their two children, Margaret and David Bert.

Earlier in his life, David was a member of the Izaak Walton League in Liberty Mills. He relished his time outdoors fishing and hunting, and also enjoyed woodworking, canning, and trips to the casino.

He will be fondly remembered as a dedicated father with a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. Those who knew him will cherish the memories of his big family dinners, his meticulous yard work, his trips to local gun shows, and the familiar sight of him riding around the neighborhood on his cart.

The loving memory of David D. Hicks will be forever cherished by his children, Margaret Hicks and David Bert (Paula) Hicks, both of North Manchester; granddaughter, Melissa Hicks, North Manchester; and sister Dodie (Tom) Clifton, Winter Garden, Florida. David was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Hicks; and sister, Lura Dean Shepherd.

Family and friends may call Tuesday, November 3, 2026 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in North Manchester.
