Donna L. Long, 89, North Manchester, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, at Parkview Wabash Hospital in Wabash, Indiana. Born on July 23, 1936, in Argos, Indiana, to William Cecil and Sarah Lavon (Saygers) Wilhelm, Donna lived a life marked by dedication, love, and a commitment to enriching the lives of those around her.
Donna’s early years were defined by a passion for learning and a steadfast determination to serve others. She graduated from Bourbon High School in 1954 and pursued higher education with great ambition. After working as a dental assistant—a role she embraced to support her husband, Richard “Dick” Long, through his schooling—Donna realized her dream of becoming a teacher. She earned her teaching degree from Huntington University, graduating in three years as an honor student, and furthered her education with a master’s degree from St. Francis University in Fort Wayne. Donna then embarked upon a fulfilling career teaching fifth grade in Huntington County schools, where she made a lasting impact on countless students.
On September 1, 1957, Donna and Dick exchanged vows, beginning a remarkable partnership that spanned sixty-eight years. Together, they raised their daughter, Sheril, sharing in the joys and adventures of family life. From their early days, the Long family explored the United States, visiting many historic sites and creating treasured memories together.
Donna and Dick’s shared love of travel took them across the globe—from the serene wilderness of Alaska to the sunny beaches of Aruba, and from the natural grandeur of Yellowstone to the vibrant landscapes of California. Among their most meaningful journeys was leading a church group from the Warsaw Community Church, where Donna was a member, to Israel, a pilgrimage that held special significance. There, they were honored to baptize many members of their group in the Jordan River, a sacred site where John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ. In total, they assisted with the baptism of one hundred seventy-eight people during this extraordinary trip.
Beyond their travels, Donna and Dick enjoyed spending time together engaged in their shared passions—playing golf, teaching Sunday School, and embracing every opportunity to grow their faith and strengthen their community bonds. Donna’s zest for life, her unwavering faith, and her warm spirit enriched all who knew her.
The loving memory of Donna L. Long will be forever cherished by her husband, Richard “Dick” Long, North Manchester; daughter, Sheril (Bryan) Runyan, Warsaw; granddaughter Megan; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth; and brother, William “Bill” Wilhelm, Fort Wayne. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; and sister-in-law, Barbara Wilhelm.
The family of Donna Long will grieve privately.
For those who wish to honor the memory of Donna Long, memory contributions may be made to the Warsaw Community Church, 1855 South County Farm Road, Warsaw, Indiana 46580.
The family of Donna Long has entrusted McKee Mortuary with care and final arrangements.
