Gary Lee Passwater Sr.

Gary Lee Passwater Sr., a man known for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and unwavering devotion to his family and those he loved, passed away at his home on May 11, 2026. Born on July 16, 1962, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Lloyd and Phyllis (Culmann) Passwater, Gary’s life was defined by his commitment to family, service, hard work, and the things that brought him joy.

Gary graduated from North Putnam High School in 1980 and proudly answered the call to serve his country by serving in the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge, Gary became the owner and operator of Cycle Trucking and also worked for O.N.I. out of Michigan. He took great pride in his work and was known for his reliability, dedication, and willingness to help others. Gary proudly served his country and carried that same sense of commitment and loyalty throughout his life.

Beyond his work, Gary found companionship and love with Vera “Susie” Martin, with whom he shared twenty-two years together. He had a passion for flat track dirt bike racing and especially treasured the time spent watching Monty race, creating memories and sharing a love of the sport that meant so much to him. Gary was truly one of a kind. He had a way of leaving a lasting impression on those around him through his warmth, sincerity, humor, and genuine spirit.

Gary’s memory will be forever cherished by his companion, Vera “Susie” Martin of Roann; his sons, Gary Lee (Sandra) Passwater Jr. of Brownsburg and Nicholas Passwater of Putnam County; and his grandson, Monty Pedrey, whom he lovingly raised as his own. He is also survived by his brother, Mark (Sandie) Passwater of Kentucky; his sister, Sharon Finchum of Greencastle; his grandchildren, Maddison Passwater, Brandon Passwater, Dillon Passwater, Cash Passwater, Kirsten Passwater, and Savannah Roy; and his great grandchildren, Sophia Mammolenti and Vincent Mammolenti IIII; along with several nieces and nephews, including Jeff (Robin) Dean, Terry Dean, Jennifer Rosenburg, Heather Rosenburg, Mark Rosenburg, Annie Recupero, Katie Recupero; Cory (Jesse) Dean, Mindi (Rob) Danhour, Shelby Dean, Cole Dean, Clair Dean, Sarah Dean, Makaylee Danhour, Kinzi Danhour, Jesslynn Dean, Jameison Dean, Jadeis Dean, Jianna Dean, Emily Rosenburg, Julius Rosenberg, Ellie Rosenburg and Ethan Rosenburg.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Phyllis Passwater; his son, Shawn Michael Passwater; and his siblings, James Lloyd Passwater and Carol Jean Passwater.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at a later date.

The family of Gary Lee Passwater Sr. has entrusted McKee Mortuary with his care and final arrangements.
