Genevieve (Demintrinko) Gierlowski

September 9, 1923 — November 8, 2019

North Manchester

Genevieve Gierlowski, 96, North Manchester, Indiana, passed away at 10:50 a.m. on November 8, 2019 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. On September 9, 1923 Genevieve was born in Vinnytsia, Russia, present day Ukraine, to Prokop and Olga (Ostrowski) Demintrinko.

After graduating from high school in Ukraine, Genevieve married Leon Gierlowski in August of 1944. For thirty-five blessed years Leon and Genevieve were married until Leon passed away on April 25, 1980. During their marriage the two moved several times. Fortunately, Genevieve was able to work for various JC Penney stores for twenty years before retiring in 1987.  The Catholic Church was one thing that was always constant in Genevieve’s life. Genevieve never lost her faith in Jesus Christ or The Church, even through the loss of her beloved husband.

Genevieve was a very caring and giving person to anyone with whom she crossed paths. During Christmastime she was part of a group of people who traveled to different senior living communities and sang Christmas carols to the residents. During her time living in Rochester, Indiana, she volunteered at the senior center cooking and making crafts for the residents and staff who worked there. She always enjoyed having people over, entertaining them and especially cooking for them. Genevieve treasured making crafts and sewing for her children and grandchildren, as it often gave her extra time with them. For her granddaughter’s wedding, Genevieve spent countless hours hand crafting decorations for the festivities. Genevieve also enjoyed learning. She could read, write, and speak five different languages.

Genevieve’s loving memory will continue to be in the hearts and minds of her two daughters, Helen (Larry) Kwolek, Fort Wayne, Indiana and Anelise Krause (Dan) Ogle, Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

No services are planned at this time.
