Gregory L. Hicks

With great sadness the family of Gregory Leffler Hicks (Leff), 73, North Manchester, announces his passing on July 26, 2026 at Peabody Retirement Community. He was born October 15, 1952, in Marion, the son of Thomas Lloyd and Mary Elizabeth (Leffler) Hicks. He and his three siblings grew up in Gas City/Jonesboro, where he met his life-long friend, Mike Midler.

After graduating from Mississinewa High School in 1970, Greg completed two years at Purdue University (Beta Theta Pi) before joining the U.S. Navy in 1972. He served as a FTC3 on the Destroyer Escort, U.S.S. Davidson. Following an honorable discharge from the military in 1975, he completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, graduating in 1976. Greg began his career working for the Indiana Employment Security Division in Bloomington and Wabash.

From 1997 until retirement, Greg worked in various roles within the propane gas industry: Branch Manager, Corporate Supervisor of Safety and Training, Manager of College Recruiting, Supply Representative, General Manager and Midwest Area Safety & Compliance Manager. LP companies included Pyrofax Gas Co., Texas Eastern Corp., LaGloria Oil & Gas Refinery, Silgas, Inc., Blue Flame Propane, L.P., Star Gas Propane, L.P., Amerigas Propane, Titan Propane, L.P., and Heritage Petroleum, LLC.

He was an active member of the First Brethren Church, North Manchester. Interests included golf, collecting watches, watching I.U. and Purdue basketball and frequenting thrift stores. He adored his family and protected and provided well for them.

His advice, anchoring presence and faithfulness to God and his family will be missed and he will always be loved by his wife of 47 years, Suzanna Bellamy Hicks; two daughters, Sara Hicks Hinkle of Fishers, IN, and Morgan S. Hicks of Weehawken, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Ashlyn G. Hinkle, Isla E. Hinkle, and Beckham W. Hinkle; his brother, Thomas L. Hicks (Linda) of Battle Creek, MI; his brother-in-law, Ernest Stone, his step siblings: Scott Bryan, Larry Bryan and Sharon Nicholson; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Thomas Bryan; his brother, Michael Hammond, his sister, Kathie Stone; and his stepbrother, Stephen Bryan.

Family and friends may call Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. with calling beginning at 12:00 noon at the First Brethren Church, 407 North Sycamore Street, North Manchester, Indiana, with Pastor Ron Burns and Pastor Kurt Stout officiating. Burial will be held at Marion National Cemetery on Monday, August 3, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
