James Albert Dixon Sr., born on August 19, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Albert and Gladys (Lewis) Dixon, passed away on March 2, 2026, at the Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester, Indiana.
James graduated from Prestonsburg High School in 1967, laying the groundwork for a life that would be filled with various roles and responsibilities. He attended Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, Kentucky, further broadening his education. Throughout his career, James worked a variety of jobs ranging from a guard in a jail to factory work, consistently striving to provide for his family.
A quiet and simple man by nature, James found his greatest joy in his family. He married Velvie "Bev" Lea Francis on March 3, 1972. Together, they experienced many wonderful years before her passing on August 2, 2004.
James’s ties to the North Manchester area and Prestonsburg, Kentucky, kept him connected to his roots, and he ultimately made North Manchester his home. He was an avid sports fan, particularly devoted to the University of Kentucky basketball program and the Cincinnati Bengals, enjoying the thrill of all sports except golf and tennis.
James was also a dedicated member of God's Highway to Heaven Church in Warsaw, Indiana, where he found community and spiritual solace.
The loving memory of James Albert Dixon Sr. will be forever cherished by his sons, David Francis Sr., North Manchester, James (Candy) Dixon Jr., Prestonsburg, Kentucky, John (Crystal) Dixon, Prestonsburg, Kentucky, and Joshua Dixon, Milford; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velvie “Bev” Dixon; daughter, Helen Marie Dixon; grandson, James David “JD” Francis; daughter-in-law, Cosondra Dawn Addair; and sister, Louise Robinson.
Services to celebrate James’s life will be held at a later date. Burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw, Indiana, next to his wife, who he missed dearly.
