North Manchester

Emma Jean Gamble, a devoted mother, dedicated employee, and passionate collector, passed away tragically on September 27, 2024, at the age of 90 in North Manchester, Indiana. Born in Kentucky on September 7, 1934, to Lonnie and Savage (Shepherd) Shepherd, Jean attended Sidney High School and went on to build a successful career spanning over fifty years at General Tire, mostly living in Marion, Indiana, during that time.

Throughout her life, Jean embodied qualities of independence, determination, and perfectionism. She had a keen eye for collecting and restoration, finding beauty and value in the ordinary. Her love for dolls and their restoration was a testament to her meticulous nature. Jean's generosity extended to her love for cats, gardening, and her unwavering commitment to helping others.

The loving memory of Jean Gamble will be forever cherished by her children, Gary (Chris Lawson) Haupert, Phoenix, Arizona, Cheryl (William “Bud”) Mallow, Peru, Indiana, and Rick (Leah) Gamble, Syracuse, Indiana; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews; and all the lives she touched over the years. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Savage Shepherd; and her brother, Rev. Durwood “Derby” Shepherd.

All are welcome to celebrate the life Jean lived on October 4, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, 600 Beckley Street, North Manchester, Indiana 46962. Pastor J.P. Freeman will officiate.
