Jerry Arthur Benson

September 22, 1943 — November 23, 2023

Silver Lake

Jerry Arthur Benson, 80, Silver Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on November 23, 2023. The son of the late Eugene Robert Benson and Ruby Louis (Votra) Blankenship, Jerry was born in Wabash on September 22, 1943.

After graduating from Clear Creek High School in 1961, Jerry enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served for three years until he received an honorable discharge. He then returned home and began working at various companies before settling at Wabash Valley in Silver Lake, where he was employed until he retired in 2008.

On August 25, 1990, Jerry married Peggi (Poyser) Meredith. They each brought their own children into the marriage and become a united family. Jerry loved hunting and showing his coonhounds. The dogs he trained to hunt were more than just his dogs to him; they were family. Jerry's passion for coon hunting led him and others to found the Silver Lake Sportsmen and Farmers Conservation Club, of which he was especially proud.

The loving memory of Jerry Benson will be forever cherished by his wife, Peggi Benson, Silver Lake; daughter, Mona (Brett) Arrick, Jamestown; stepdaughters, Brandy (Jamie) Owens, Indianapolis, Wendy Meredith, and Kelly Meredith, both of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Brandy Barnett and Dean Beeks; step grandchildren, Reigann Owens, Jasper Owens, and Sydney McLaney; great-grandchild, Zayden Beeks; and son-in-law, Troy Beeks. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Theresa Beeks, who died on June 27, 2008; and granddaughter, Alesha Arrick, who died on December 7, 2017.
