John Reid Frieden

John Reid Frieden, 75, of North Manchester, passed away on August 30, 2026, at Timbercrest Healthcare Center in North Manchester, Indiana. He was born on October 28, 1950, in Wabash, Indiana, to James Frieden and Margaret (Shenefield) Frieden, both of whom preceded him in death.

John graduated from Warsaw High School in 1970. During his school years, he distinguished himself in football, shot put, and discus, and he also worked as a mechanic at the Marathon Station in Silver Lake. After high school, he began a two-year journey in the United States Air Force, serving as a jet engine mechanic. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and began a long career as a truck driver, working for several companies, including Heckman Bindery, before retiring in 2005. For a brief time in 1973, John started a business selling CB radios.

A man of service and steady commitment, John volunteered with EMS in the Silver Lake area from 1977 until 2005. He also served for ten years as a Reserve Officer with the North Manchester Police Department. Growing up, he was known as a protective brother, and he also gave his time to helping coach the youth baseball league in Silver Lake.

He will be remembered as someone who loved to joke around, loved dogs, and was a skilled carpenter. In earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the North American Hunting Society, becoming especially skilled with a bow and arrow. He also enjoyed watching old westerns and wrestling. John was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in North Manchester and a former member of American Legion Post 286.

The loving memory of John Frieden will be forever cherished by his siblings, Nancy Shenefield, North Manchester, Joyce O’Brien, Fort Wayne and Von Frieden, Claypool; granddaughter, Demetria Frieden; several nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Doris Frieden; brother, Jeffrey James Frieden; and sister, Barbara Jo Frieden.

Family and friends may call Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Servia, Indiana.

The family of John Reid Frieden has entrusted McKee Mortuary with care and final arrangements.
