Joyce Miner (Butler) was born in Wabash, Indiana to Joe and Maxine Butler on December 27, 1948. She grew up in Laketon, Indiana and graduated from Manchester High School (’66). Joyce was fun-loving and a good friend to many growing up.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in education from IPFW she worked as an elementary reading teacher in Payne, Ohio. She met Don Miner in 1971 through a “blind date” set up by her best friend. Joyce and Don fell in love and were married on May 26,1973. Don would continue to be her loving husband for the next 53 years.
In 1975 Joyce met Christ Jesus and her life was forever changed. She experienced the transforming love of Jesus and loved everyone around her with that love. She walked faithfully with Jesus through all the joys and sorrows of life.
Joyce was dedicated to raising her four children and helping others. She spent many years as a stay-at-home mom nurturing a deep relationship with each of her children which continued on with her grandchildren. She consistently put relationships first, was especially generous with her time and resources, didn’t know a stranger, and was always up for an adventure.
In later years she loved to golf, travel, spend time with her grandchildren, and to serve at her church. Joyce was truly a treasure. Her loss is immeasurable to those who loved her.
Joyce lived by the motto to “take one day at a time”. She emulated what it meant to live in the present moment. She further walked this out in her journey with dementia. With grace and humility, she faced each challenge dementia presented while continuing to exude joy and peace, even to the very end.
Joyce peacefully passed on June 7, 2026 surrounded by her family. What was known in part, became fully known, as Jesus welcomed her home.
Joyce is survived by her husband Don; her children, Jothan, Jessica (Aren) Hansen, Cassi (Tyler) Silveus, and Zach; nine grandchildren, Ava (Cole) Roybal, Rhett, Emeline, Theodore, and Calvin Silveus; Alexandra, Eliana, Josephine, and Samuel Hansen; one great granddaughter, Posey Roybal; and her siblings, Jennifer Butler, Jocelyn Bulter, and Jeff Bulter.
Visitation will be at The Branch, 7227 Bittersweet Moors Dr, Fort Wayne on Tuesday, June 16th from 6-8 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at the same location on Wednesday, June 17th with visitation from 1-2 pm and a celebration of life service immediately following.
The family of Joyce Miner has entrusted McKee Mortuary with care and final arrangements.
