Lois A. (Hare) Stanger

June 27, 1942 — November 1, 2022

North Manchester

Lois A. Stanger, 80, North Manchester, Indiana, passed away November 1, 2022, at Parkview Randallia Hospice in Fort Wayne. Daughter of the late James R. and Victoria C. (Correll) Hare, Lois was born on June 27, 1942, in North Manchester.

Lois graduated from Manchester High School in 1960 and from IU School of Nursing in Fort Wayne. She worked as an LPN at the Washington House in Fort Wayne in the early 1990s before moving to Sarasota, Florida, in the late 1990s where she worked at Sunnyside Retirement Community. She later moved back to North Manchester and continued her career at Timbercrest Senior Living Community. Lois retired from Peabody Retirement Community in 2004. She then worked for a short time in the Union at Manchester College and spent time volunteering at various places.

In 1963 Lois married Charles Henry Stanger. Their marriage lasted twelve years, and the two were blessed with two sons, Charles Todd and Bret A. Lois and Charles reconnected later in life and created a new bond of friendship until Charles died on November 7, 2015. Prior to Charles’s death, the two filled their time going to garage sales and dining at a number of restaurants.

Faith was a staple in Lois’s life since the time she was a young girl. She was a member of Congregational Christian Church in North Manchester and taught her grandchildren at an early age about faith and the Lord, often reading them Bible verses. Even when it became difficult for Lois to get around, she still watched church online and participated in many online Bible studies.

From her professional to her personal life, Lois was a caring and helpful individual who loved being around people.  She had a playful personality and could make anyone laugh. Her smile could turn a bad day into a good one. Lois enjoyed watching Notre Dame and Indiana University sports, but nothing compared to the joy she found being with her family and watching her grandchildren in their events. She also delighted in playing gin, poker, and Booray with her family.

The loving memory of Lois A Stanger will be forever cherished by her sons, Charles Todd (Marietta) Stanger, Jacksonville, Florida and Bret A. (Lori) Stanger, Warsaw; brother, Gary Hare, Houston, Texas; sisters, Joan Luckenbill, Sarasota and Becky Evans, Indianapolis; and grandchildren, Preston Stanger, Victoria Ehlers, Jam Flores, Landen Stanger, and Reece Stanger. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Janet Clark; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hare; brothers-in-law, Wayne Luckenbill, Charles Evans, and Richard Clark; and friend, Charles Henry Stanger.
