Lucille "Lucy" Jean Dougherty, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and friend, passed away on September 7, 2025, at the age of 82, at the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born on July 15, 1943, in Gary, Indiana, to Michael and Helen (Roszkowski) Nadolski, she was proud of her Polish heritage and took great pride in her ancestry.
After graduating from Gary Tolleston High School in 1961, Lucy began her professional journey at NIPSCO. It was during her time at NIPSCO that she met the love of her life, Robert K. "Bob" Dougherty. Their relationship blossomed, leading to their marriage on May 14, 1966. Lucy dedicated herself to her family, spending time at home to raise her two cherished children, Sara and Tim. Her passion for creativity and commitment to nurturing her family eventually inspired her to return to the workforce. She ventured into her own cake decorating business, where she shared her culinary talents and joy with others. Later, she continued her career at the Silver Lake Vet Clinic and subsequently worked for several years at Stumps in South Whitley before retiring.
Lucy was a devoted member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in North Manchester, reflecting her deep faith as a guiding force throughout her life. She was also known for her vibrant personality, often bringing laughter as a skilled jokester and an exceptional cook. Her involvement with the Red Hat Society showcased her spirit and zest for life, where she enjoyed sharing good times with friends.
The loving memory of Lucille Dougherty will be forever cherished by her daughter, Sara (Bill) D’Andrea, North Manchester; son, Tim Dougherty, Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Jack Dougherty, Luke Dougherty, Resto D’Andrea and Clare D’Andrea; and brother Joe Nadolski, Houston, Texas. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert “Bob” Dougherty; and siblings, Harriet Pauk, Fred Nadolski; and John Nadolski.
Family and friends may call Monday, September 15, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 1203 State Road 114 East, North Manchester, Indiana. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Father Daniel Koehl officiating. Burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in North Manchester, Indiana.
