Maxine Estep, 95, of North Manchester, Indiana, formerly of Ashland, Kentucky, passed away November 16, 2024, at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester, Indiana. Born on February 27, 1929, in Ashland, Kentucky, to Alex Hayden and Mary Jane (Sargent) Kelley, Maxine was the youngest of thirteen children. By the age of ten, Maxine’s parents had passed and it was her brothers and sisters that helped raise her.
Following her graduation from Ashland High School in 1947, Maxine embarked on a journey of love and partnership with Russell E. “Red” Estep. The couple married on May 31, 1947, and shared nearly fifty-nine years together until Red's passing on March 28, 2006. Throughout their marriage, she supported Red by managing the books for his contracting company, where they laid bricks and blocks, showcasing her dedication and commitment to their shared endeavors.
As a homemaker, Maxine’s nurturing spirit blossomed. She found joy in tending to her vibrant flowers and creating delectable candies with her family, moments that solidified cherished memories. A grandmother and great-grandmother, she knew that her greatest adventure lay in the love and laughter of her family. Maxine also found joy in bowling, particularly relishing the time spent on the lanes with her daughter, Karen and also being a scout leader for her daughter.
Before moving to North Manchester in 2005, she was a member of Westwood Church of God in Ashland, Kentucky, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Upon relocating, she embraced the warmth of the Congregation Christian Church, where she attended.
