Michael "Shenie" Douglas Shenefield

Michael “Shenie” Douglas Shenefield, 71, of North Manchester, Indiana, passed away on November 1, 2026, at his home. Born in Wabash, Indiana, on December 16, 1954, he was the son of Douglas B. and Rozella I. (Williams) Shenefield.

A hard-working man his entire life, Michael began working at Singer Controls while still in high school. After graduating from Manchester High School in 1973, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge, Michael built a dedicated career working at Hayes Lemmerz, Paragon Medical, and finally at Oji Intertech Products, where he eventually retired.

Though he described himself as a bit "wild and crazy" in his younger years, Michael grew into a quiet, independent man. He was a devoted brother and uncle who was always there when his sister needed him. In his younger days, he attended the Congregational Christian Church in North Manchester. Michael was a lifetime member of the Warsaw VFW, Moose Lodge 1518 in North Manchester, and a 47-year member of North Manchester American Legion Post 286. He also had a lifelong love of cars; in 1973, he purchased a Plymouth Cuda—a prized possession he still owned and could often be seen driving around North Manchester.

The loving memory of Michael “Shenie” Shenefield will be forever cherished by his sister, Deborah “Debbie” Smith of North Manchester; nephews Jeff (Cindy) Wagner of Pierceton and Scott (Sherry) Ervin of Gulfport, Mississippi; six great-nieces and nephews; four great-great-nieces and nephews; and many dear friends made over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William “Butch” Shenefield.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at a later date at Moose Lodge 1518 in North Manchester. Burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in North Manchester.
