Nancy Sue Lewis

Nancy Sue Lewis born on August 5, 1934, in Noble County, Indiana, to George and Helen (Caldwell) Ball, passed away on July 21, 2026, at Timbercrest Healthcare Center in North Manchester, Indiana. She leaves behind a legacy rooted in devotion to her faith and family.

Nancy graduated from Albion High School in 1952. Shortly after, she embarked on a career with Lutheran Hospital Pediatrics, where her compassion touched the lives of countless children and families. Demonstrating a commitment to continued learning, Nancy took courses at Purdue University to further her expertise before moving to the hospital’s laboratory. Being a lab technician was a job that Nancy was proud to do.

Nancy’s personal life was enriched by her enduring marriage to Ira Lewis. After Ira’s return from service, the two began their lifelong partnership, marrying on February 9, 1958. Together, they were blessed with nearly sixty-five years of marriage and six children: Donald “Don”, Robert “Bob”, Sue, Kelly, Scott, and Ira Jay.

Beyond her work in healthcare, Nancy supported her family alongside her husband, Ira, through their ownership and operation of several small businesses, including Wabash Transfer in Wabash, Lewis Garage in South Whitley, and a salvage yard in North Manchester—entrusting her with the vital task of managing the bookwork. Nancy also worked at Sunshine Cleaning and spent years babysitting children in her home. Life on the family farm provided yet another place for Nancy's careful attention and support, as she tirelessly helped with farming operations and ensured the household ran smoothly.

A faithful member of Manchester Bible Church, Nancy’s Christian faith guided her actions and was reflected in her daily life. She was deeply devoted to her family and her beliefs, providing an example of steadfast love and integrity. Those who knew Nancy remember her as a devout wife, mother, and Christian, whose presence brought comfort and inspiration.

Nancy Sue Lewis’s life was one of service, dedication, and unwavering kindness. Her memory will continue to inspire those who were privileged to know her, as she now rests in Heaven with Jesus.

The loving memory of Nancy Sue Lewis will be forever cherished by her daughters, Sue A. (Matt) Baker, Claypool, and Kelly L. McKee, North Manchester; son, Donald A. “Don” (Sherry) Lewis, Scott A. Lewis, both North Manchester, and Ira Jay Lewis, Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Christine (Jim) Brodbeck, Tiffany Anclaire, Abby (Troy) Martin, Justin (Jordan) Lewis, Mattie (Caleb) Bandow, and Ira Drake Lewis; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Kathy Robarge, Goshen. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ira Lewis; son, Robert Scott “Bob” Lewis; and siblings, George Burnell Ball, Lyle L. Ball, and Nedra Trittipo.

Family and friends may call Friday, July 31, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. with calling beginning at 9:00 a.m. with Pastor Rod Peebles and Pastor Jeff Lewis officiating at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East Street, North Manchester. Burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in North Manchester, Indiana.
