Stephen "Steve" Kent Ulrey

Stephen “Steve” Kent Ulrey, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away at his home in North Manchester, Indiana, on July 30, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born on November 7, 1943, in Huntington, Indiana, to Wallace E. and Rosaline (Howard) Ulrey, Steve spent his early years forming the foundation of a life defined by devotion to both his family and his faith. Steve graduated from Manchester High School in 1961. While still in high school, he began working at Peabody Seating Company, demonstrating a remarkable work ethic from a young age. Following graduation, Steve attended IPFW, earning a degree as a Draftsman—an accomplishment that would shape his long and dedicated career.

Steve returned to what became Majestics after Peabody Seating Company was acquired, continuing his career as a Draftsman. His commitment to his craft and his colleagues spanned over forty-five years, until his retirement in 2007. During these decades, Steve built lasting friendships and earned the respect of those with whom he worked.

On November 25, 1965, Steve married Mary Jane O’Neil, and together they created a home filled with love and warmth. The couple was blessed with three children: Kent, Delpha, and Megan. Family was always at the heart of Steve’s world. He attended his children’s events, serving as a steady source of encouragement and support. The most important lesson Steve imparted to his children was to know and love the Lord—a reflection of his own deep and abiding faith.

Steve was a devoted member of St. Paul’s County Line Church, where he found community and spiritual fulfillment. He served on the Brethren Way of Christ, was a member of Gideons, and devoted time to prison ministry through Kairos. Through word and action, Steve demonstrated his compassion and conviction, impacting the lives of many beyond his immediate family.

In his leisure time, Steve had a passion for collecting Department 56 Snow Villages and model trains. Trains, in particular, captivated him—a hobby that brought him joy and provided opportunities to connect with others who shared his enthusiasm.

The loving memory of Steve Ulrey will be forever cherished by his wife, Mary Jane Ulrey, North Manchester; children, Kent (Lisa) Ulrey, North Manchester, Delpha (Bruce) Miller, Rochester, and Megan (Matt) Flinn, North Manchester; grandchildren, Madyson (Eli) Kitt, Claire (JaMichael Howleit) Flinn, and Emma Ulrey; great-grandchild, Zariah Howleit; and brothers, David (Paula) Ulrey, Fort Wayne and Jerald “Jerry” (April Lynn) Ulrey, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends may call Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s County Line Church, 3995 North 1000 West, Andrews, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor Conrad Thompson officiating.
