Obituary

Arden Eugene Badskey, 90, South Whitley, passed away on May 8, 2023, at Parkview Whitley Hospital in Columbia City. Born March 12, 1933, on his family’s farm in South Whitley, Arden was the son of the late Marcellus and Gladys M. (Dillon) Badskey.

During his youth, Arden worked at his father’s chicken house gathering eggs. After graduating from South Whitley High School in 1953, Arden entered into the Army of the United States where he served with pride and gratitude for the next two years. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Arden returned back to the family farm. On June 19, 1955, he married the love of his life, Beulah Young. For nearly sixty-eight years Arden and Beluah built a beautiful life together. Arden worked hard to provide a good life for his wife and four children. He was employed at Whitley Manufacturing and then drove for Pierceton Trucking and Coble Asphalt. Arden’s love for the farm remained constant, though.

Arden was an honest man who loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He had the gift of storytelling, often taking a long time to tell his stories just to make sure his grandchildren were paying attention. Arden also had a deep love for John Deere tractors and blue Oldsmobile cars. He liked what he liked, including staying on the farm. While growing up, Arden attended church each Sunday with his parents. After he started his own family, they attended North Manchester Baptist Church and then became members of the Manchester Bible Church.

The loving memory of Arden Badskey will be forever cherished by his wife, Beulah Badskey, South Whitley; sons, Larry (Rhonda) Badskey, Avilla, and Dennis (Amy) Badskey, Corona; daughters, Diana Badskey, South Whitley, and Rose Marie (Jeff) Pottenger, South Whitley; sisters, Bonnie Sleighter, North Manchester and Dorothy (Dave) Rotman, Westfield; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Arden was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wayne A. Badskey; and sister, Nancy Spurgeon.
