Charles Darrell "Charlie" Carpenter

Charles Darrell “Charlie” Carpenter, 82, Pierceton, Indiana, passed away at his home on November 15, 2022. Born on January 23, 1940, in Menifee County, Kentucky, Charles was the son of Elbert and Elizabeth (Griggs) Carpenter He was the last surviving sibling of his three brothers and three sisters

During World War II, Charlie and his family moved to Pennsylvania for a few years and then returned to Kentucky for a short period of time before relocating to Stirrat, West Virginia. Charlie lived most of his life in Stirrat before moving to Pierceton, Indiana, in 2013 to be closer to family. He always enjoyed his trips back to Kentucky.

Charlie was a jokester who loved being with his nieces and nephews. He was a teacher to many of them and enjoyed telling stories about his earlier life and time spent in the mountains. While living in Indiana, Charlie taught his great-nieces and nephews to plant and pick various fruits and berries as well as how to fish. He loved to sit on the porch while feeding and watching the birds and also collected coins and hats. Charlie enjoyed the beauty of art and the peace that it brought to him. However, nothing compared to the peace he found in the Lord. Charlie relished in his time worshiping at Full Gospel Tabernacle in Claypool, where he attended.

The loving memory of Charlie Carpenter will be forever cherished by his numerous nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward Carpenter, Joseph Carpenter, and Donald A. Carpenter; and sisters, Nelda Hubler, Laverna West, and Parthenia Carpenter.

Family and friends may call Friday, November 18, 2022, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Full Gospel Tabernacle, 250 North Main Street, Claypool, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor Carl Hughes officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2022, at Highland Memory Gardens, 42 Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery Road, Pecks Mill, West Virginia 25547.
