Connie Sue (Shelton) Garris

Connie Sue Garris, 62, North Manchester, daughter of Raymond M. “Whitey” and Hazel M. (Barton) Shelton, passed away March 6, 2024, at Warsaw Meadows Care Center. Born on March 7, 1961, in Wabash, Connie was a dear sister to Mary, Linda, Billy, and Larry Shelton, and the beloved mother of Joseph and Valerie.

A mother first and foremost, Connie was a homemaker who excelled at cooking and baking. Her specialties were chocolate pies and chocolate chip cookies, which she often gave as gifts to those she loved and others who needed something to brighten their day. Her most popular cooking recipe was her meatballs. She enjoyed relaxing by making crafts and coloring. Connie was married to Jerry Lee Garris, even though their marriage didn’t work out, the two shared two children, Joseph and Valerie, and remained friends.

Faith was consistently important in Connie’s life. She loved the Lord and the promise of paradise following this life. When her health still allowed, Connie enjoyed worshiping at Christian Fellowship Church earlier in her life and most recently at Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren. She loved being where others gathered, especially at church and was always welcoming and hospitable. 

The loving memory of Connie Sue Garris will be forever cherished by her children, Joseph L. Garris and Valerie Marie “Val” Garris, both of North Manchester; sisters, Mary A. (James Holler) Sharp, Liberty Mills, and Linda (Steve) Lambert, North Manchester; sister-in-law, Rebecca Shelton, North Manchester; and all the people whose lives she touched over the years. Connie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Billy R. “Bill” and Larry L. Shelton.

Family and friends may call Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor Kelly Beutler and Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in North Manchester.
