Dorothy Whitmore Obituary

Dorothy Pearl Fry Whitmore passed away at 6:51 p.m. November 4, 2019 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, Indiana. She was born May 30, 1917 to Earl and Bessie (Netzley) Fry in Chicago, Illinois.

On December 25, 1936 Dorothy’s aunt Elsie wrapped her as a present and was given to Rev. Albert L. Whitmore. They were married that day. The two were wed for sixty-seven years before Albert passed away on February 6, 2004. Dorothy was a pastor’s wife and moved quite often. She lived in Kansas, Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana. She spent her later years at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren in South Whiley, where she was very active as a leader in South Whitley Farm Bureau Homemakers Club. She later moved to North Manchester where she was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren, serving as a Sunday School teacher and on the church board. She worked in the cafeteria at Manchester College and retired from Manchester Community Schools as a Librarian in 1980. She volunteered in many activities; her favorites were working at One World Handcrafts in North Manchester and holding Bible Study classes for the inmates at the Wabash County Jail.

She is survived by three daughters Marilyn (Richard) Jones, Polo, Illinois, Anne (James) Hollinger, The Villages, Florida, and Karen Sue (Milan) Mishler, North Manchester, Indiana; two sons, Mack (Becky) Whitmore, Chilton, Wisconsin and Dan (Ellen) Whitmore, Mechanicsville, Virginia; one brother Clyde Fry, Mansfield, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Donald Fry; and one son, Curtis Earl Whitmore.
