Janice Sue (Allen) Wood

Janice Sue Allen Wood, 82, Claypool, passed away on May 7, 2023, at Peabody Health Care Center in North Manchester. The daughter of the late Harold L. and Emma Lou (Meyer) Allen, Janice was born April 19, 1941 in Wabash County, Indiana.

A year after graduating from Manchester High School in 1959, Janice married Eddie Wood on March 26, 1960. In 1961 Janice graduated from Ravenscroft Beauty College. For the next fifty-nine years she owned and operated Janice’s Beauty Shop until her retirement. She also worked for Farmers Mutual as an insurance agent for thirty-one years, helping people with their insurance needs. 

Life wasn’t just about work for Janice. She was blessed with two sons, Brian and Brent. While the boys were growing up and even as they became adults, Janice loved to cook for whoever came over. She took great pride in knowing that no one left her home hungry. Janice had a calm, caring nature that made everyone feel at home. She loved listening to music and always had the radio on. During the winter months, Janice and Eddie enjoyed going to the Gulf Shores, Alabama, area for a few weeks at a time.

The loving memory of Janice Wood will be forever cherished by her husband of sixty-three years, Eddie Wood, Claypool; sons, Brian (Rhonda) Wood and Brent (Lori) Wood, both of Sidney; brother, Danny Joe Allen, North Manchester; sister, Saundra Hoagland, Warsaw; grandsons, Kyle (Dustin Van Liew) Wood, Hempstead, Texas, Kory Wood, Muncie, Andrew Wood and Evan Wood, both of Claypool, Andrew Combs, North Manchester and Aaron Combs, Laketon; great-grandchildren, Easton and Ryker Combs; and several nieces and nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Lee Allen.

Family and friends may call Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be at Clemmers Fishers Ross Cemetery, 3904 East 900 South, Claypool, Indiana.
