Marjorie Ann (Barton) Wirsing

March 19, 1944 — February 4, 2024

Liberty Mills

Marjorie Ann Wirsing, 79, Liberty Mills, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on February 4, 2024. She was born in Warsaw on March 19, 1944, to Betty Barton.  As Marjorie grew older, her mother married Johnny Poe, and he helped raise her as well.

On September 7, 1967, Marjorie married her best friend and the love of her life, James L. Wirsing. During their beautiful fifty-six year marriage, they were blessed with five children. Marjorie was a kind, loving mother and grandmother and was the type of person who would give her last bit of money to someone just to see them smile. She did her part in seeing that her children received everything they wanted by working in the cleaning department at St. Joe Hospital in Fort Wayne as well as at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester for many years. She also worked in the kitchen at Peabody from 1984 until her retirement in 1995.

Marjorie loved her friends, family, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She and James were members of North Manchester Church of the Nazarene until it closed at which time they joined Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren. While at the Church of the Nazarene, Marjorie taught Sunday school, bringing smiles to many children’s faces. She also treasured the time she spent with her husband, enjoying many date nights together. Marjorie enjoyed painting, coloring, reading the Bible, and baking. Many people can still taste the delicious baked goods Marjorie generously gave during the holiday season.

The loving memory of Marjorie Wirsing will be forever cherished by her husband, James L. Wirsing, Liberty Mills; sons, James Wirsing, Michigan City and Chris (Charlene) Wirsing, North Manchester; daughters, Teresa (Mark) Jablonski, La Porte, Debi (Mike) Hensley, Michigan City, and Kathy (Walter) Woods, Wabash; brothers, Charles Poe, North Manchester, David (Sharon) Poe, Warsaw, and Johnny Poe, Indianapolis; sisters, Linda (David) Wick, El Paso, Texas and Evelyn (Calvin) Compton, Liberty Mills; thirteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her mother Betty (Barton) Poe; stepfather, Johnny Poe; brother, Gary Dean Hall; and sister, Joanne Clevenger.
