Martin Sacks Obituary

Martin Bloom Sacks, 73, Warsaw, Indiana formerly of Sidney, Indiana passed away June 30, 2020 at 2:20 p.m. at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw. Martin was an only child born to Henry Martin and Lena (Bloom) Sacks on March 27, 1947. Martin married Bonnie Lu Furnas in 1971. The two were married for thirteen years and had one son, Daniel Martin Sacks.

Martin graduated from Warsaw High School in 1965 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Purdue Fort Wayne in 1969. He was a lifelong farmer and mechanic, working at Meyers Motors in Liberty Mills, Indiana from 1969 to 1972. He later worked for Sun Metal, Warsaw, Indiana for forty-seven years, retiring in 2019. His work can be seen all over the world from sporting bike wheels, and sporting wheel chairs, to wheels for the Chevrolet Sunraycer, which was raced in Australia. Some of his work can be seen in the Smithsonian Institution Museum. He also worked as a consultant for NASA. Martin was an intelligent and talented teacher, from teaching others his craft, such as TIG welding, where he was a certified instructor, to his son, where he passed on his knowledge and gave life lessons, Martin was kind, patient, and thorough in his teachings.

Although Martin was never in the military, he was a supporter and lifelong member of American Huey 369 in Peru, Military Vehicle Preservation Association, Air Force Association, ROTC, and NRA. Martin was a man of faith and enjoyed drag racing, flying small planes, which he had a pilot’s license, and tractor pulling. He often donated his time plowing snow for the town of Sidney and the residents that lived there and was a local mechanic for farmers around his home.
